I was a student at LAMAR univ. I studied Computer science. Here are some pointers-
I had to give GRE and TOEFL. My visa interview was a very short one the only question which the officer asked me was Why Lamar? thats it.
I was able to get a scholarship- out-state waiver. RA was very rare .At that time not much research was carried out at Lamar. There was one Professor- Dr. Tran who did extensive research. But he used to have only 2-3 RAs every year, so the scene was tough for. TA and GA one could get it from 2nd semester onwards based on your performance in the previous semesters
Your course completely depends on your professor. If you are able to establish a good relationship with them then its fine. Expect a pretty hectic schedule. Students dont get too much time in CS.
The weather in Beaumont is hot more like Delhi. On campus jobs were available but there was high competition for these jobs. The number of jobs are also less. There were a few students who did off campus jobs but its risky in terms of time management. The average living cost is about $200-250 per month. I also had the opportunity to work at the FIA which was a good experience.
Campus recruitments are not available.
