Overall experience
Stanford is a great place! The courses vary from being incredibly rigorous to v. laid back. A nice balance is always the best way to go. Plus, you must get a fantastic advisor who can get you through the system in a happy fashion.
Selection process and gaining admission
Basically, it is hard (v. hard) to get into Stanford. However, once in, it is well worth it!
Funding and scholarships
Funding is usually available to US students, but not usually to non-US ones. Once here, however, all sorts of small pots of money become available to do research, to travel, and to do internships.
Your study experience
Courses vary a great deal in terms of how good they are. Some professors take their job very seriously and then you end up with a super class. Other times, they pass you onto TAs (who are basically grad students) - a less good experience, especially when you consider how much you are paying to be here. Need to talk to faculty advisor and other students to find out which courses are worth taking.
Your life experience
California is phenomenal. The weather is unbeatable, people are friendly, and you are just a hop, skip, and a jump away from San Francisco. Accommodations are okay. If you have to live off-campus, they can get quite expensive, but on campus is do-able.
